Platycerium wandae
Quantity: 1 Plant
Platycerium wandae, famously known as the Queen Staghorn Fern, is one of the largest and most majestic species in the Platycerium genus. Native to the tropical rainforests of New Guinea, this extraordinary epiphytic fern is highly prized by collectors for its impressive scale and architectural form.
When mature, Platycerium wandae can produce massive fronds—fertile fronds reaching up to 6 feet long and spreading several feet wide. Its broad, shield-like sterile fronds form a strong base that anchors the plant securely to its mount, while the elegant upright fertile fronds rise above like living sculptures. Over time, it can develop into a truly dramatic specimen, often exceeding 10 feet in overall spread under ideal conditions.
This is a slow-growing but rewarding species, becoming more spectacular with age and proper care.
Light:
Bright, indirect light is ideal. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which may scorch the fronds.
Water:
Keep the root zone consistently moist but never waterlogged. Water thoroughly when the mounting medium begins to dry slightly.
Humidity:
Thrives in high humidity. Regular misting or a humidity tray is recommended in dry environments.
Fertilizer:
Feed every 2 weeks during active growth with a balanced fertilizer diluted to half strength.
Temperature:
Prefers warm tropical conditions between 18–29°C (65–85°F). Protect from cold drafts and frost.
