Detail
Thrixspermum hystrix is a rare, compact epiphytic orchid native to the humid rainforests of Southeast Asia, including Thailand. Known for its fan-shaped growth habit and unique blooms, this species is a must-have for terrarium enthusiasts, miniature collectors, and those who love intricate botanical details.
The plant produces thin, wire-like flower spikes that bloom successively. The delicate, cream-to-yellow flowers feature a star-like, spider-fine silhouette. While individual flowers are short-lived, a happy plant can pop into bloom at almost any time throughout the year, especially during the warmer spring and summer months.
Quick Care Guide
Light: Medium, bright indirect light (similar to Phalaenopsis or light Vanda conditions). Avoid harsh direct afternoon sun.
Watering: Prefers consistent moisture. Do not let the medium dry out completely. Regular watering 3–5 times a week depending on your ambient environment.
Humidity & Temp: Thrives in high humidity (50% or higher) and warm to intermediate tropical temperatures
Growing Tip: Growing this miniature on a plastic pad allows its fine, thick roots to breathe easily while maintaining access to air humidity, mimicking its natural tree-dwelling habitat perfectly.
