Origin: Found in northeastern India and Myanmar. Other varieties can be found in northern Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and southwestern China. This particular species thrives at altitudes ranging from 700 to 1800 meters.

Habitat: Paphiopedilum hirsutissimum is a medium-sized orchid that can be found in leaf litter pockets in forks or at the base of trees. It’s also known to grow on steep limestone cliff faces in narrow crevasses.

Foliage: The orchid boasts 5 to 7 distichous leaves that are linear-oblong to linear-ligulate in shape. They have obtuse, obliquely bilobed apices and are clear green on top with purple spots beneath.

Blooms: This species typically blooms in the spring. Its inflorescence is single-flowered and stands erect, reaching up to 12″ (30 cm) in length. The flowers are green with dark purple hairs and are densely pubescent. The floral bract is elliptical, densely hairy on the abaxial side, ciliate, and much shorter than the ovary.

Cultivation: Paphiopedilum hirsutissimum is a shade-loving orchid, ideally suited for terrestrial growth in thin soil on rocks. It prefers consistent moisture throughout the year.

Elegant and unique, this orchid species adds a touch of natural beauty to any collection.
