Dendrobium anosmum (Selection) Dendrobium anosmum

Description:

  • This orchid is quite large and hangs down like a waterfall.
  • It has straight rows of leaves that fall off at certain times.
  • It’s found in places like Malaysia, Laos, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Philippines, Indonesia, and Papua and New Guinea.
  • Lives in the lower part of forests, not too high up, usually below 1300 meters.
  • Its stems are long and thin, like a stick, and can grow up to 4 feet (120 cm).
  • Each section of the stem is covered by a loose covering.
  • The leaves are long and kind of oval, and they fall off too.
  • When it’s warm or cool, it grows well.

Caring Tips:

  • It needs a dry time starting around October. This dry time lasts until new leaves start growing in the early spring.
  • In the spring, it shows off pretty flowers, about 8 to 10 of them. These flowers grow from the stick’s sections and are close to each other.
  • The flowers smell a bit like raspberries.
  • To help this orchid grow nicely, it’s best to put it on a piece of tree fern or cork.
  • When new parts start growing in late spring, it’s time to give it water and food. This helps it grow up to 3 feet long by October.
  • And then, it’s back to drying it out again!

Dendrobium anosmum is a special orchid that hangs down elegantly, and it’s found in many interesting places. It likes a bit of dry time and a bit of wet time. When it blooms, you’ll see pretty flowers along its stick-like stems. Just make sure to water it when it’s growing new parts, and it’ll be a happy and beautiful part of your garden.
