Trichoglottis brachiata is a species of orchid native to the Philippines. It is also known as Trichoglottis atropurpurea, The Dark Purple Trichoglottis, Stauropsis philippinensis var. brachiata, Trichoglottis bicruris, and Trichoglottis philippinensis var brachiata.

  • Growth habit: Epiphytic, monopodial
  • Stem: Erect, leafy towards the apex, with elongated, branching, white roots produced all along the stem
  • Leaves: Distichous, coriaceous, oblong to oblong-ovate, retuse, mucronate, carinate
  • Inflorescence: Axillary, short, racemose, with 1 or 2 fragrant, fleshy flowers
  • Flowers: Flowers are dark red-purple in color, with a diameter of up to 6 cm. The sepals and petals are similar in shape and size, and the lip is three-lobed, with a hairy midlobe.
  • Flowering time: Spring and summer

Culture:

  • Light: Trichoglottis brachiata requires bright, filtered light. It should not be exposed to direct sunlight, especially during the afternoon hours.
  • Temperature: Trichoglottis brachiata is a warm to hot growing orchid. It prefers temperatures in the range of 75-85°F (24-29°C).
  • Humidity: Trichoglottis brachiata requires high humidity, in the range of 60-80%.
