Coelogyne rochussenii can be found across various regions, including Malaysia, Borneo, Java, Sumatra, and extending eastwards to the Philippines. It thrives in lowland areas, often found on trees that stretch over rivers, at altitudes of up to 1500 meters. Coelogyne rochussenii is a medium-sized orchid that demonstrates a preference for both warm and cool conditions. It typically grows as an epiphyte, sometimes even as a lithophyte. Its growth pattern involves the presence of cylindrical, narrow, and distinctly furrowed pseudobulbs, with a spacing of 3.4 to 1.4 inches between each. These pseudobulbs support elegant leaves that are oblong to obovate in shape, possessing rounded tips and a slight tapering towards the base. The leaves are characterized by their petiolate base, extending up to 2 inches (5 cm) in length.

During the winter months, these orchid graces the surroundings with its beauty, especially in Singapore where it is cultivated. It produces a basal, heteranthous inflorescence that can exceed 1 1/2 feet (45 cm) in length. The inflorescence hangs gracefully, bearing a pendant raceme. The mature pseudobulbs provide a sturdy base for this remarkable display. The inflorescence is adorned with brown basal bracts and showcases an impressive array of up to 40 fragrant flowers. These flowers emit a delightful lemon scent, creating an alluring atmosphere. Notably, the flowers exhibit a unique behavior – they partially close each night and then unveil their splendor once again with the arrival of morning sunlight. This captivating characteristic adds an element of intrigue to the already captivating Coelogyne rochussenii.
