Plant information

Bulbophyllum adelphidium is a medium-sized plant found in northern Sumatra. It grows in primary forests on tree branches and trunks near the forest floor at elevations of around 1200 to 1700 meters. The plant has cylindrical, slightly compressed pseudobulbs that are spaced about 6 to 10 inches (15 to 25 cm) apart. Each pseudobulb carries a single, apical, elliptic to obovate leaf with a petiolate base. The plant blooms in late spring and summer on an arching, 4 to 6 inches (10 to 15 cm) long, 18 to 30 flowered inflorescence. The flowers have a distinctive odor that smells like rotting shrimp, which some people find delicious!
